Review your options
As you prepare to study away or abroad, you'll need a solid plan to pay for your program, and we have resources to help. You can review the varying costs and scholarship or financial aid opportunities available to you as you decide which program is right for your needs and goals.
We encourage Hamline students to review the following financial information provided for each specific study abroad term.If you're looking for specific details about your financial aid package, inquire at the Financial Aid Office in East Hall.
Costs, financial aid, and scholarships

Make sure you understand the costs of your program before committing to it. You can use the Global Engagement Center budgeting tool (Google Sheet),and we encourage you to to contact the Global Engagement Center (GEC) first and then the Financial Aid Office with questions.
Most costs will be paid via the Hamline student account.
Exchanges
This includes exchanges built by Hamline and ISEP Exchanges. Hamline tuition and some fees are billed from Hamline. Housing and meals depend on the exchange.Program provider and direct programs
The costs of program providers (IES, AIFS, ISA, etc.) or those labeled as direct (ISEP Direct) depend on the location, program term, and other factors. Please connect with the GEC for specifics on the costs of the program.Short-term and faculty-led programs
Summer and spring break programs have their costs listed on the program's website.A study away fee will be assessed for all study away and study abroad programs at Hamline. This fee helps provide emergency services, academic and tech support, insurance, and other GEC study away resources for students.

Federal and state aid
Applicable to a student studying away as long as the student is eligible and meets enrollment requirements. However, federal and state work-study is ineligible.Hamline scholarships and aid
Exchanges allow for the full use of Hamline scholarships and aid. The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) and HECUA programs have special terms, but Hamline aid is not applicable to other program providers.Private loans
Contact the Financial Aid Office for a list of approved educational loan options.There is a minimum processing time of 10 days to certify the loan.Other scholarships
There are many other scholarship funds for study away students (more for abroad than for domestic programs). Some Hamline departments also have scholarships.Special funds
Educational 529, savings accounts, and VA benefits like the GI Bill® may also apply to study away programs. -
Scholarships are out there! Many students give up before even looking or get discouraged because they haven’t been successful in getting scholarships for normal school costs.
Study away or study abroad scholarships are a bit different than general tuition scholarships. The population for the scholarships are much lower than a normal scholarship search—only one in 10 US undergraduates go abroad.
